L'écrivain haïtien Lyonel Trouillot a été couronné par le Grand prix du Roman Métis pour :

Lyonel Trouillot a remporté le Grand Prix du Roman Métis 2011 pourLa belle amour humaine (Actes Sud), un chant humaniste relatant le hasard des destinées qui fait naître blanc ou noir, puissant ou misérable. 

L'écrivain haïtien d'expression française et créole succède à Maryse Condé, lauréate de cette distinction l'an dernier pour En attendant la montée des eaux (Lattès). 

Lyonel Trouillot était finaliste du prix Goncourt, qui a finalement primé Alexis Jenni pour L'Art français de la guerre (Gallimard). 

Créé en 2010 et doté de 5000 euros, le Grand Prix du Roman Métis est organisé par la ville de Saint-Denis de la Réunion et l'association La Réunion des Livres. Il est décerné à un roman francophone qui "met en lumière les valeurs de diversité, d'échanges et d'humanisme, symboles de l'île de La Réunion". 

Une Mention spéciale du jury a été attribuée à la romancière réunionnaise Catherine Pinaly, pour Sur Feuille de Songe(L'Harmattan).

Olivier Frébourg et Jean-Christophe Bailly sont tous deux couronnés par le prix Décembre pour, respectivement, Gaston et Gustave(Mercure de France) et Le Dépaysement: Voyages en France (Le Seuil). 

Le jury - composé entre autres d'Amélie Nothomb, de Josyane Savigneau et présidé parLaure Adler - a écarté le troisième finaliste,Emmanuel Carrère, qui a remporté hier le prix Renaudot pourLimonov (P.O.L).
